UNILAG News

A recent report published by Forbes listed the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as the third tertiary-level institution renown for breeding of technology entrepreneurs.

UNILAG also confirmed that in a Facebook post on Friday.

“The University of Lagos (UNILAG) was recently acknowledged as the third (3rd) most productive school in educating entrepreneurs in an online publication by Forbes titled: “If You Want To Start A Tech-Company In Africa, Go To College,” it stated.

According to the Forbes report, while many pride themselves in getting degrees overseas, certain tertiary institutions in Africa have sustained the momentum mentoring graduates who create their own jobs.

According to its survey, tertiary institutions are mostly affected by surrounding environment, adding that “within Africa, universities from countries with more mature entrepreneurial ecosystems took the top spots.”

“University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University in South Africa held the 1st and 5th spots respectively; University of Lagos came in 3rd and the University of Nairobi in 4th, representing the startup powerhouses of Nigeria and Kenya.

“The only outlier” which came 2nd ” was Makerere University in Uganda,” it stated in the report.

The report further stressed that it was the society that sets the pace for entrepreneurs to thrive.

It added that “even when the technical skills are acquired, however, other factors such as specific location of study can drive advantages in one direction or the other.”
