A University of Lagos graduate overcame academic setbacks, achieved a Second Class Upper degree, recorded multiple accomplishments, and celebrated her success alongside her twin sister.
A Nigerian graduate, Evidence Egwuono Adjarho, has shared her inspiring academic journey after earning a Bachelor’s degree in English from University of Lagos (UNILAG) with a Second Class Upper (4.24 CGPA), despite facing academic challenges along the way.
Taking to social media, she celebrated her convocation and posted photos, including moments with her twin sister, who graduated alongside her. She openly reflected on her setbacks, revealing that she had a carryover in her first year and failed a course in her final year.
Despite these challenges, Evidence achieved remarkable milestones during her time in school. She won the Afrocritik Inaugural Prize for literary criticism in her penultimate year and also secured the Atipo Book Review Prize in her second year.
Beyond academics, she made significant contributions to her department by pioneering a student library in the English Department, becoming its first student librarian, and helping expand its collection through book donations. She also organized the department’s first book club, hosting notable authors like Ugochukwu Ugonna and Muttiah Baddrudeen, while collaborating with Uchenna Emelife.
Additionally, she co-moderated a panel session featuring a 2024 NLNG Prize winner, participated actively in departmental events, and co-won a debate competition under her faculty.
Her story gained widespread attention online, with many praising her resilience, achievements, and transparency about failure. Her journey stands as a strong reminder that setbacks do not define success.
