Cursory: Students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) secured victory in the CFA Institute Research Challenge for the fifth consecutive year, showcasing their excellence in investment and finance research.


Students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Nigeria, have once again secured victory in the CFA Institute Research Challenge for the fifth consecutive year, solidifying the university’s reputation as a leader in investment and finance research in Nigeria. The competition, held on February 24, 2024, at the Civic Centre, Lagos, saw Team UNILAG emerge as the first-place winner.
The consistent success of Team UNILAG over five years is a remarkable feat that underscores their dedication, resilience, and excellence. Their achievements have positioned UNILAG as a beacon of research excellence in the field of investment and finance, deserving admiration and recognition.
The winning team comprised students from various departments including Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Mass Communication. They are Tomiwa Akingbade, Pelumi Erota, Aishat Adigun, Francis Ogundokun, Peace Nnachi, and Pamela Okoye.
Under the guidance of Dr. Peter N. Amah, the Ag. Director of UNILAG Simulation and Training Centre and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance, these students, who are members of The Investment Society (TIS), showcased exceptional skills and knowledge in investment analysis and equity research.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a prestigious academic competition that tests the capabilities of students worldwide in investment analysis and equity research. This year, 24 universities in Nigeria participated in the rigorous five-month-long competition, culminating in a presentation where teams presented their research findings and investment recommendations to a panel of industry professionals.
UNILAG’s victory not only reaffirms its dominance in finance and investment research but also secures its place as Nigeria’s representative in the upcoming Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Sub-Regional Competition scheduled for March 2024.
In addition to UNILAG’s triumph, the University of Ibadan emerged as the first runner-up, followed by Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) as the second runner-up. Notable participants included Pan African University, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), University of Ilorin, and Covenant University.
The CFA Society Nigeria, a member society of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute, aims to promote the highest standards of investment practice in Nigeria and provide a platform for the professional development of its members. With approximately 190,000 professionals in the investment management industry, the CFA Institute is a global community committed to excellence.
