UNILORIN wins JAMB’s ₦500 million award as the best institution, outshining ABU and others, with significant recognition for educational excellence and leadership.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has clinched the top spot at the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) National Tertiary Admissions’ Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Award) for 2021 and 2022, securing a ₦500 million prize.
This achievement was celebrated during the 2024 JAMB policy meeting and the 4th edition of the NATAP-M Award in Abuja.
UNILORIN emerged victorious by accumulating 12 points across five award categories. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, secured second place with 11 points, earning ₦75 million, while Borno State University took third with nine points and received ₦50 million.
In the sectoral awards, Kaduna Polytechnic was named the best polytechnic with 12 points, winning ₦50 million, and the Federal College of Education, Zaria, was recognized as the best college of education, also receiving ₦50 million with 11 points.
The PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos, topped the Innovation Enterprise Institutions category with six points and was awarded ₦10 million.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, announced that the total award prize was increased to ₦750 million to ensure the winners could achieve tangible results.
He noted that an institution could not win the overall prize more than once in five years, allowing the prize to be shared more broadly.
Prof. Oloyede also revealed that JAMB remitted over ₦3.5 billion to the Federal Government this year and allocated ₦750 million for the award-winning institutions.
Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau praised the event for showcasing dedication and excellence in the nation’s tertiary admission processes.
Recognition awards were also given to notable contributors to the education sector, including Prof. Emeritus Peter Okebukola, former Executive Secretary of NUC, and Prof. Bashir Galadanci, National Coordinator of UBEC Digital Resource Centre.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Prof. Okebukola expressed gratitude to God and the board, commending Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for his exemplary leadership, transparency, and diligence, suggesting he would make an excellent president for Nigeria.
