15-year-old Adekunle Aliyah of Anchor Springfield School emerged winner of the 2025 AEI Scholars’ Day quiz in Lagos, excelling among 197 participants from 63 schools, as the event highlighted the role of AI in education and celebrated youth academic excellence.

Adekunle Aliyah, a 15-year-old student from Anchor Springfield School in Lagos, has emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI) Scholars’ Day quiz competition.
Aliyah secured an impressive 84% in the challenging contest, which brought together 197 students from 63 schools across Lagos.
Close behind were Munachi Emmanuella of Orisumibare Senior High School in second place, and Muhammed Beyioku of Minbar-Minds College, who came third with 82%.
Other top scorers included Omobolanle Akanji and Daniel Adeh of Dansol High School (80%), and Maryam Sideeqah Muyili of Minbar-Minds College (78%).
Held under the theme “Redefining Academic Excellence in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” the event explored the evolving role of technology in education.
Mr. Taiwo Fagbemi, who chaired the occasion, praised the initiative for encouraging academic growth and innovation among youth. He highlighted AI’s potential when responsibly integrated into learning.
“AI, though complex, offers enormous possibilities. Used wisely, it can help students achieve remarkable success,” he said.
Ambassador Tunji Sarafa Isola, former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK and Guest of Honour, emphasized the transformative power of education.
“Education is a powerful weapon for national transformation. Events like this inspire hope,” he noted.
Dr. Tunde Aborode, Research Director at the Healthy Africans Platform (USA), delivered a keynote on the practical application of AI in scholarship hunting. He explained how AI can match students with relevant opportunities and improve their application materials.
“AI helps only when you take initiative. Know your story—AI can refine it, not create it,” he advised.
The AEI Scholars’ Day is part of the broader mission of AEI, a non-governmental organization offering coaching, leadership training, and youth orientation programs. The event also featured motivational talks from Dr. Nasir Baba-Ahmed, CEO of Octagon Cybersecurity (France), and Prince Michael Adewoye, Director of Racy and Sturdy Schools, Lagos.
Winners received certificates and cash prizes as AEI reaffirmed its commitment to cultivating the next generation of Nigerian leaders.
