University of Calabar Suspends Nine Students Over Exam Malpractice and Forged Results

University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students for two academic sessions, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year, after finding them guilty of examination malpractice and submitting forged academic results.

University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students after they were found guilty of examination malpractice and academic result forgery.

The decision was disclosed in an official statement released on Tuesday by the university’s Registrar, Chukwuka Icha, following deliberations at the institution’s 252nd Senate meeting.

According to the statement, the Senate reviewed reports submitted by an ad hoc committee on examination malpractice alongside findings from the students’ disciplinary committee. After careful consideration, five students were confirmed to have engaged in examination malpractice, while four others were found to have submitted forged academic results to the university.

As a result, the management approved a suspension of two academic sessions for all nine students, with the sanction taking effect from the 2024/2025 academic year.

Among those suspended are five students from the Department of Pharmacy:

Akwuba Enestina (300 level)
Udom Iboro (300 level)
Nwankwo Daniel (200 level)
Ore Israel (500 level)
Chisom Ejafa (500 level)

Other affected students include Lazarus Ebogo of the Department of Home Economics, Ele Godwin from the Department of Zoology, Ofem Patrick of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and Makailu Pamilo from the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies.

The university management has instructed all concerned heads of departments and faculty deans to immediately enforce the suspension. The Acting Chief Security Officer has also been directed to ensure full compliance with the decision.

The university reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice and academic dishonesty, stressing its commitment to maintaining academic integrity.
