WAEC has banned 13 schools and 14 supervisors in Kogi State for examination malpractice during the 2023/2024 WASSCE, prompting government measures to prosecute offenders and safeguard educational progress.


The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has barred 13 schools in Kogi State for engaging in various levels of examination malpractice during the 2023/2024 examinations.
The Commissioner for Education in Kogi State, Wemi Jones, revealed this during a meeting with school principals and supervisors who had been implicated by WAEC in the malpractice cases. He also disclosed that WAEC had blacklisted 14 supervisors for their involvement in irregularities during the 2023/2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Jones emphasized that the government is committed to punishing school principals, teachers, and supervisors who either participated in or facilitated examination malpractice. He described the act as a criminal offense that will be prosecuted under the Kogi State Education Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2020.
The commissioner announced plans to establish a committee, led by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, to investigate those implicated by WAEC. He warned that anyone found guilty would face legal action.
“Kogi State has made significant investments in education and will no longer tolerate individuals undermining the progress achieved in the sector,” Jones stated.
Speaking further, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Seidu Jibrin, urged principals and supervisors to abstain from any form of examination malpractice. He stressed that such acts not only harm the state but also jeopardize the future of students.
