WAEC Extends Private Candidates’ Registration Deadline to January 20, 2025

WAEC has extended the registration deadline for the 2025 WASSCE First Series for private candidates to January 20, 2025, urging timely registration while emphasizing its commitment to maintaining examination integrity.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the registration deadline for the 2025 First Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates from January 6 to January 20, 2025.

In an announcement on its official X page, WAEC stated that the extension aims to provide intending candidates additional time to complete their registration. Prospective candidates are advised to take advantage of this window to ensure timely registration.

According to WAEC’s website, candidates must generate their PINs by January 20 and complete their biometric capture and online registration by 11:59 p.m. on January 22, 2025. Further details about the registration process can be accessed through WAEC’s website or accredited registration centers nationwide.

In 2024, WAEC withheld the results of 215,267 candidates, accounting for 11.92% of the 1,805,216 students who participated in the WASSCE, due to various cases of examination malpractice. This marked a decline from the 16.29% recorded in 2023.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining examination integrity and warned that individuals involved in malpractice would face strict penalties.
