Following the release of historically poor WAEC results, public outrage erupted as the result-checking portal crashed, with students and parents demanding investigations into alleged exam mismanagement and grading errors.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result portal unexpectedly crashed on Wednesday evening, just days after the release of what has been described as the worst WASSCE results in a decade.
WAEC attributed the outage to “technical issues” and assured the public via its official X (formerly Twitter) account that efforts were underway to restore access within 24 hours.
“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues. However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours,” the statement read.
However, the announcement only intensified public frustration. With just 38.32% of nearly two million candidates obtaining credit passes in five core subjects, including English and Mathematics, many have raised concerns about the exam’s credibility.
Social media erupted with complaints, with several candidates alleging logistical failures during the English Language exam. Some reported writing their papers under torchlight late at night, with shortened time limits and no electricity.
“We started writing at 8 pm under torchlights. They gave us just an hour to complete a paper meant for over two hours,” wrote @_samad1.
“The English exam was a disaster. If JAMB can review results, why can’t WAEC?” asked @sikimark.
Parents also voiced outrage.
“My daughter had several A1s and B2s, yet somehow got D7 in English. It doesn’t add up,” tweeted @Johnway11145073.
“WAEC, please look into the English results. This is crushing the dreams of hardworking students,” pleaded @DEYHOT_official.
Calls for independent investigations and government intervention are now growing louder.
“We reject this result. WAEC must act or prepare for protests,” warned @pastorbtdaniels.
The controversy continues to stir national debate as candidates wait anxiously for clarity.
