Monia Giraso Keza Kabandana received recognition for her exceptional research at the University of Maryland Baltimore County after successfully earning her doctorate in Bioanalytical Chemistry in a span of five years.
Monia completed her doctorate degree in Bioanalytical Chemistry at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in the United States. Sharing her accomplishments on Linkedin, she expressed her elation at completing the program.
Her doctoral research, titled “3D-Printed Quantitative Microfluidics for Bacteria and Macrophage Studies and the Impact of Indole in Modulating Itaconate in Macrophages,” focused on expertise areas including immunology, gastroenterology, and infectious diseases, which she diligently pursued over the course of five years.
Monia acknowledged that her academic path was challenging. Despite facing obstacles, she persevered through determination. She noted that her dissertation draft required no revisions from her advisor, necessitating her independent navigation of the research process.
She noted that her supervisor’s confidence in her training led him to believe she could complete it independently. Initially apprehensive, Monia found inspiration and confidence from a quote in the holy book to write her dissertation on her own.
Surprisingly, after the defense, the committee found no need for revisions, demonstrating her ability to overcome challenges. Monia’s diligence also earned her the Most Outstanding Research award. She mentioned that she authored five publications, with one featured on the front cover of the American Chemical Society (ACS) journal.
Monia emphasized that her academic journey was a collective effort involving support from her alumni friends, labmates, principal investigator (PI), committee members, as well as friends and family.
Reflecting on the journey Monia said she celebrated not just a PhD but the tremendous personal growth it brought. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her along the way adding that she is excited about the next adventure.
