Teenage boy Wins $40,000 Scholarship, Set to Become First Graduate in His Family

Cursory: A young immigrant from the Dominican Republic, secured the prestigious Amazon Engineering Scholarship worth $40,000 to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering in the United States. This scholarship supports promising computer science students with education and career advancement opportunities, including paid internships.

A young individual named Angel Feliz has been awarded the Amazon Company Engineering scholarship valued at $40,000 to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering at a university of his choice in the United States.

Feliz, who relocated from the Dominican Republic to Providence, United States at the age of 9, was granted the prestigious Amazon Engineering Scholarship. This scholarship, provided by Amazon, a leading online company globally, aims to support 100 promising computer science students in advancing their education and future careers.

Recipients of the scholarship are granted $40,000 to pursue computer science studies at the university of their choosing, along with the opportunity for paid internships at Amazon upon completing their freshman year of college.

Upon learning of his achievement, Feliz reached out to his mother, resulting in an emotional moment for both, considering he is a first-generation immigrant. This scholarship marks a significant milestone for Feliz, as he will be the first in his family to attend and graduate from university. “I’m a first-generation immigrant. This scholarship means that I will soon also be a first-generation college student and can continue exploring pathways in technology without placing a financial burden on me and my family,” Feliz expressed. He further added, “It also helps me feel motivated. It is important to me to know that I have people supporting me along the way.”

Feliz expressed his appreciation for the collaborative nature of his work in computer science, which contrasts with the commonly held perception of independent, isolated work environments in the field.
