For the first time in its history, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) celebrated an extraordinary academic achievement during its 55th convocation ceremony as ten master’s students graduated with a perfect 5.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA). This remarkable feat, spanning various disciplines, highlights the dedication, resilience, and brilliance of these scholars.
The History Makers
1. Onubogu Uchenna (M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Uchenna described his journey as demanding, particularly during the second semester when he had to master complex drug structures and terminologies while working on his thesis. A graduate of Chemistry, he attributed his success to the unwavering support of his family, spiritual mentors, and friends.
2. Abdullahi Abubakar (M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Abdullahi commuted daily from Sagamu, Ogun State, to Idi-Araba, leaving home at 6 a.m. and returning exhausted at 10 p.m. Inspired by his experience during an internship at ABUTH in 2020, where he witnessed patients struggle with limited treatment options, he pursued his master’s degree to make a difference. He advised students to stay focused, learn beyond exams, and trust in God.
3. Tunwashe Daniel (M.Sc. Computer Science)
Tunwashe overcame financial and emotional challenges to achieve his goal. He emphasized the importance of consistent effort, updating notes, and adhering to his supervisor’s guidance.
4. Muhammed Mariam (M.Sc. Computer Science)
Mariam set a clear goal of graduating with a 5.0 CGPA, which helped her effectively manage her time. Her passion for programming and software engineering motivated her to pursue advanced studies in Computer Science.
5. Ogunleye Akeem (M.Sc. Production and Operations Management)
Akeem pursued his degree to enhance his business management skills and drive growth. He successfully balanced academics, personal life, and business by integrating them into a single focus.
Among the scholars are;
• Ojelabi Titilayo (M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
• Lawal Babatunde (M.Sc. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering)
• Johnson-Opeseitan Deborah (M.Sc. Natural Resources Conservation)
• Olubanjo Emmanuel (M.Sc. Microbiology)
• Omojola Joy (M.A. Philosophy)
Each scholar’s journey is a testament to perseverance and hard work. Whether juggling long commutes, managing personal challenges, or balancing professional and academic demands, they all demonstrated that excellence is attainable with focus and determination.
Their collective success sets a new benchmark for academic achievement at UNILAG, inspiring current and future students to aim higher.
