16-Year-Old FUTA Student Wins NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition

Ojedele Jesuferanmi Emmanuel, a 16-year-old Architecture student at FUTA, won the 2024 NCDMB Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition, receiving ₦1 million, a laptop, and a plaque, in a program aimed at promoting education, local content awareness, and intellectual development among Nigerian students.

Ojedele Jesuferanmi Emmanuel, a 16-year-old Architecture student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition.

At the award ceremony held at the NCDMB Tower, Ox-Bow Lake, Yenagoa, Emmanuel was announced the winner among the top 10 finalists. The talented second-year student from Oyo State received a ₦1 million cash prize, a brand-new laptop, and a golden plaque.

Miracle Okoli, a 23-year-old Law student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, secured second place and was awarded ₦750,000, a laptop, and a plaque. The third position went to 19-year-old Okogbe Mary, an Electrical Engineering student at Igbinedion University, Okada, who received ₦500,000, a laptop, and a plaque.

Speaking at the event, NCDMB Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by Esueme Dan-Kikile, General Manager of Corporate Communications, praised the participants, especially the top finalists, for their efforts. He highlighted the competition’s role in fostering intellectual development and promoting awareness of local content as a driver of Nigeria’s economic growth, job creation, and national security.

Ogbe noted, “The NCDMB has sustained this competition for eight years because of the importance we place on education and the intellectual development of young Nigerians. This initiative aligns with our mandate of capacity-building and local content development.”

The competition also seeks to enhance students’ proficiency in writing, critical thinking, and communication skills, preparing them for the demands of the emerging digital economy.

According to Mr. Eyinimi Omorizi, CEO of Mahogany 21st Century Concepts Limited, the competition organizers, over 2,000 undergraduates across Nigeria participated, with the finalists selected after a rigorous screening process. He commended the winners and thanked the NCDMB for its unwavering support in sustaining the competition.

This initiative underscores the NCDMB’s commitment to empowering Nigerian students and fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation.
