16-Year-Old Girl who emerged Best WAEC Student wins N500,000 cash prize

A 16-year-old girl, Joy Abahi Amuh, has won a cash prize of N500,000 as the best graduate of the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2020.

Amish is a student at Otukpo São Paulo High School Benue State.

She won the cash prize in the sixth annual literacy project organized by the Eunice Fountain of Life Foundation.

According to the nation, the managing director of BIPLC Group Alex Adum said that the cash rewards will help Amuh pursue quality education.

Alex said that the company hopes that with this gift, Amuh’s educational pursuit will not be interrupted due to a lack of funds.

He said that it is very important to give such awards to young people with excellent academic performance, and he hopes to encourage other students to work hard to do their best.

At the event, Eunice Ortom, the first lady of Benue State and founder of ESLF, also congratulated Amuh and expressed her joy and gratitude to the company and the foundation.

The first lady also urged other girls to follow Amuh’s extraordinary achievements.

The school principal Peter Emaikwu described Amuh Joy as a hardworking, and dedicated student.

Although Amuh Joy graduated with an excellent WAEC result, she was unable to register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) due to a lack of funds.

To meet the funding needed for her UTME, the 16-year-old girl teaches in a nursery and primary school in Otukpo.

According to Joy, she works in the school to save money and continue her studies
