The Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) has unveiled its 2024 Global 2000 Universities list with University of Lagos coming top 8.5%.

The Centre for World University Rankings (CWUR) has unveiled its 2024 Global 2000 Universities list.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka has been ranked in the top 8.5% globally, securing the 52nd position in Africa and the 1774th spot out of 20,966 universities worldwide.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka is now recognized among the top 8.5% of universities worldwide, according to the 2024 Global 2000 List by the CWUR. UNILAG is ranked 52nd in Africa and 1774th globally.

According to CWUR, UNILAG stands out as the 52nd best university in Africa and 1774th globally, placing it within the top 8.5% of universities worldwide.

This achievement was announced on the university’s official X handle (formerly Twitter) @UnilagNigeria on Wednesday, May 28.

UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated the university community for this notable accomplishment. The CWUR rankings are based on indicators grouped into four key pillars:

The 4 Key Pillars of World University Rankings

  1. Education (25%) – Measured by the number of a university’s alumni who have earned significant academic achievements, relative to its size.
  2. Employability (25%) – Assessed by the number of alumni who have held top executive positions in the largest global companies, relative to the university’s size.
  3. Faculty (10%) – Evaluated by the number of faculty members who have received top academic distinctions.
  4. Research (40%) – Comprised of four criteria:
  • Research output (10%) – Total number of research articles.
  • High-quality publications (10%) – Number of research articles in top-tier journals.
  • Influence (10%) – Number of articles published in highly influential journals.
  • Citations (10%) – Number of highly cited research articles.
