With 2021 winding down and 2022 fast beckoning we take a look at the top 5 students who graduated with a first class despite the daunting challenges.


1. Otoko Steven Edwards: Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
Top on the list is a story of a gentleman with uncommon perseverance and diehard attitude towards success; Otoko Steven Edwards bagged a first class degree in pure and applied mathematics from Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
He graduated with a perfect cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.00 and broke a 41-year-old record in the University.
The department of mathematics having been established in the university in 1980, no graduate had made a first class until Steven set a precedent.
2. Lateef Adeleke: Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo state.
Second on the list is Lateef Adeleke who having lost his first admission due to financial constraint.
Lateef though not discouraged on his quest for academic success wrote jamb again and was admitted into the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo state and graduated with a first class in 2021.

3. Timilehin Precious Abayomi: FUTA
After spending five years at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife , Timilehin precious Abayomi was kicked out of school despite not mentioning the reason for his misfortune, he said it threw his family into sadness.
Despite hitting rock-bottom, determined to excel Timilehin applied to FUTA in 2015 and gained admission. He graduated with first class degree in 2021.
“Never give up despite the hurdles”.
4 & 5: Twin sisters Juliet and Kehinde Oluyale: FUTA
Having twins is said to be a blessing and to the Oluyales they got double in Juliet and Kehinde who both graduated with a first class degree from the same university.
Juliet graduated with a CGPA of 4.89 and Kehinde came in close with 4.89.
Juliet wrote: ” In retrospect, I remembered how I was totally away from school for more than two months. Myself, my parents, doctors and colleagues were all scared and worried. I cried on several occasions that God should heal me so I can return to school. I never gave up, I was determined. I eventually returned to school to do marathon reading, submitted all assignments, did make-up test and wrote exam for that semester. It was the most challenging period of my life”
