Cursory: Raheem Adedoyin, Hotelier and founder of Oduduwa University has been sentenced to death by hanging over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife who went missing and was found dead 2 days later after lodging in Adedoyin’s hotel in 2021.

Raheem Adedoyin, Hotelier and founder of Oduduwa University has been sentenced to death by hanging over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife who died in 2021.

Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University was said to have traveled from Abuja to write an exam at a distance learning centre of OAU in Moro, Osun state, on November 5, 2021 and had lodged in Adedoyin’s hotel.

He was supposed to stay out the period of the examinations, but was declared missing by the police on 7 November 2021. Few days later, the Osun State police command released a statement disclosing that the 37-year-old student was found dead.

Adedoyin and six of his hotel workers namely: Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola, were brought before the court and tried for the murder of the 36 year old man.

The court in a ruling on Tuesday, May 30 held that circumstantial evidence confirmed that Adedoyin and his staff killed Adegoke and tried to conceal their crime.

The prosecuting counsel, Femi Falana, told the court that the defendants committed the offence as charged, while the defense counsel led by Yusuf Alli, insisted that there was no evidence that his clients murdered Adegoke.

The court however found the hotelier guilty and he was sentenced to death alongside two others who were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
