Cursory: 40-year-old woman, Gladys Gakii returns back to school, graduates with diploma, and wins scholarship.


Gladys Gakii, is a true definition of the term; ‘regardless of age, dreams are not far-fetched.’
Regardless of her age and countless setbacks, Gakii was determined to pursue her dreams which led her into deciding to resume her studies in 2019.
Gakii childhood was not that easy having being abandoned by her mum at her a river bank.
However, she got support and assistance from different individual that at the age of 4o, she decided to rebuild her life with the help of a clergy man and his wife.
As an adult, she acquired assets and opened multiple businesses.
In 2022, Gakii earned a Diploma in Criminology from Tharaka University and successfully graduated with a certificate in Criminology and Security Studies from the same institution.
Following consideration by VC Peter Kinyua, the woman was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in the same course.
Gakii words;
“I have attained a Diploma in Criminology and Security Studies. After all the struggles with school fees and upkeep, the Vice-Chancellor saw my determination and thirst for education and offered me a scholarship in December last year.
“In January 2023, by the grace of God, I will step into a Bachelor’s class. Thanks to Tharak University Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Kinyua Muriungi.
“I can only thank the university for the degree scholarship and promise to do my best not only in the school but even out there to the community. One day, I will give back. So help me God.”
