University of Ibadan Confirms Abduction of Female Law Student

The University of Ibadan has confirmed that a 300-level law student, Tomisin, was abducted alongside seven others while returning from a religious conference in Imo State, while reports that eight UI students were missing have been dismissed as false.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan has confirmed that a 300-level law student, identified as Tomisin, was abducted while returning from a religious conference in Imo State.

According to SUG President Temidayo Adeboye, the student was travelling back to Ibadan with the National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Uwem Cosmos, and other participants after attending the fellowship’s national conference at Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State.

Adeboye clarified that reports claiming eight University of Ibadan students were missing were false. He stated that Tomisin is the only UI student currently unaccounted for after communication with the group was lost. The union has contacted relevant religious bodies and security agencies to help locate the victims and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He added that concerns about Tomisin’s disappearance intensified after she failed to sit for her faculty examinations scheduled earlier in the week. Another UI student from the Department of Music who attended the conference has since returned safely.

Meanwhile, the university’s Director of Public Relations, Joke Akinpelu, confirmed that the institution was aware of the incident. She noted that the student travelled without officially informing the university and reiterated that only one UI student was abducted, contrary to social media reports suggesting that eight students were involved.

Students and members of the Scripture Union have continued to call for prayers and urgent action to secure the release of Tomisin and the other victims.
