Teacher Killed, Six Suspects Arrested Over Oyo School Abduction — Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed that one abducted teacher was killed during the Oyo school kidnapping incident while security agencies arrested six suspects and intensified efforts to rescue the remaining victims.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed the death of a teacher and the arrest of six suspects linked to the recent abduction of teachers in Ahoro-Esinle Community. The governor disclosed this through a statement released on Monday in Ibadan by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju.

Makinde expressed deep sympathy to the family of the slain teacher and assured residents that the government would combine both military and peaceful strategies to secure the release of the remaining victims still held by the kidnappers. He also extended condolences to the families of the soldiers, Amotekun Corps members, and local vigilantes who lost their lives during the rescue mission.

According to the governor, the security operatives were killed after encountering improvised explosive devices planted by the abductors during the operation. He added that the injured officers were responding well to medical treatment and promised that the state government would fully support their recovery.

The governor appealed to the families of the abducted victims, religious organisations, and members of the public to remain patient while security agencies continue efforts to rescue those still in captivity. He explained that although immediate solutions may not be possible, the government remains committed to resolving the crisis as quickly as possible.

Makinde revealed that seven teachers were abducted during the incident and sadly confirmed that one of them, reportedly a mathematics teacher, was killed by the kidnappers. Despite the tragic development, he noted that security agencies had made progress in the investigation, with six suspects already arrested within the community.

He further stated that authorities believe some of those arrested may have acted as informants or logistics suppliers for the kidnappers, while another security agency in the state also arrested three additional persons connected to the case. The governor added that neighbouring states must work together to prevent terrorists and bandits fleeing military pressure in Northern Nigeria from moving into southern states, assuring citizens that regular updates on the rescue efforts would continue to be provided.
