18-Year-Old Nigerian-American Shines Bright with Admissions to Six Ivy League Universities

18-year-old Nigerian-American Osariemen Unuigbe earned admission into six Ivy League universities, among other top U.S. institutions, in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and leadership.

In a remarkable academic feat, 18-year-old Osariemen Unuigbe, a Nigerian-American student, has secured admission to six Ivy League universities in the United States, earning her a place among the brightest young minds of her generation. Born to Edo State immigrants, Dr. Augustine and Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Unuigbe, Osariemen has become a beacon of pride for Nigerians both at home and abroad.

A senior at Egg Harbor Township High School in New Jersey, Unuigbe was admitted into Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, and Rutgers, as well as other prestigious institutions such as Duke, Spelman College, and the Governor’s School of New Jersey. Her achievements are backed by an impressive academic record and deep involvement in extracurricular activities.

Her family expressed joy and gratitude for her accomplishments, calling them a miracle and crediting faith and hard work for her success. Osariemen’s well-rounded personality is evident in her leadership roles, athletic participation in lacrosse, and creative passions, including dancing, painting, and drawing.

In recognition of her excellence, she was named a 2025 “Rising to the Top” scholar by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Southern New Jersey Chapter. Her journey reflects the growing presence and impact of Nigerian students in the U.S., contributing significantly to academic excellence and cultural diversity.

According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, the number of Nigerian students in U.S. institutions reached 20,029 in the 2023/2024 academic year—a 13.5% increase—highlighting the continued global impact of Nigeria’s brightest talents.
