A leading financial services company in the country, Opay, has announced plans to establish a ₦60m scholarship programme for students of the University of Ilorin.

The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Itoro Udo, disclosed this last Wednesday (March 19, 2025) when he visited the Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr Mansur Alfanla, FCIML, in his office.
According to Udo, the Opay Scholarship Programme aims to alleviate the financial budden that hinders students from pursuing higher education. The programme will provide support to 20 undergraduate students of the University, with each recipient receiving ₦300,000 per session. This initiative will run for 10 years.
In 2024, Opay launched its ₦1.2 billion scholarship programme and the University of Ilorin is among the 20 institutions that will benefit from the scheme. In addition to financial support, Opay will also enhance the employability and future success of the scholarship recipients.
Udo told the Registrar that the company would visit the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, to provide a comprehensive briefing on the programme, to ensure that students can benefit from it without delay.
In his response, the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, expressed the institution’s enthusiasm for supporting student-centric programmes. He thanked Opay for its commitment to empowering Unilorin students and contributing to their academic and personal growth.
