Cursory: A delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) visited Dr. Godwin Maduka’s upcoming Transatlantic Medicine and Health Science University in Umuchukwu Community, Anambra State. Led by NUC’s executive secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, the team praised the university’s infrastructure and expressed support for the initiative. Dr. Maduka’s project aims to combat brain drain in Nigeria’s medical field, offering admissions in various medical and allied health disciplines.
A delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently visited the forthcoming Transatlantic Medicine and Health Science University located in Umuchukwu Community, Orumba South LGA of Anambra State. Spearheaded by renowned US-based medical doctor and philanthropist, Dr. Godwin Maduka, the university aims to address the growing brain drain in Nigeria’s medical industry.
Led by the NUC’s executive secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, the inspection team commended the quality of the university’s infrastructure. The project, valued at billions of naira, represents Dr. Maduka’s commitment to reinvesting part of his business interests back into Nigeria.
The NUC expressed readiness to support the initiative, emphasizing its significance in fostering human capital development in the country. According to Maiyaki, the university will play a crucial role in grooming the necessary manpower to provide medical services to Nigeria’s population.
Key features of the proposed university include a 17-storey building, touted as the tallest in the South East and South-South regions, along with residences for principal officers, lecture theatres, administrative, hostel, and other essential facilities.
Dr. Maduka highlighted the urgency of the project, citing the increasing trend of medical professionals seeking opportunities abroad. He reassured that the university would commence full operations in September, offering admissions to students in various medical and allied health disciplines, including pharmacy, dental, nursing, radiology technology, and research programs.
The Transatlantic Medicine and Health Science University represents a significant step towards addressing the healthcare challenges in Nigeria, promising to empower local experts and contribute to the nation’s medical landscape.
