Ajayi Crowther University announced on Saturday that it has expelled several students involved in an altercation that resulted in the death of their peer.
The university did not specify the number of students expelled but clarified that the individuals involved were not affiliated with any cult group.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the university detailed that the deceased student had been accused of stealing a mobile phone, which led to the tragic incident.
The statement read: “Contrary to circulating reports, the university asserts that there is no cultism within the institution. The university maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of anti-social behavior and misconduct. It is crucial to emphasize that the expelled students are not members of any cult group.
“The incident occurred after the deceased was accused of stealing a mobile phone. Instead of reporting the matter to the university authorities, the expelled students allowed their emotions to take over, leading to the unfortunate death of the student.
The university has acted swiftly by handing over all the students involved to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation, ensuring that justice will be served.”
