Ibadan Teacher Arraigned After Refusing to Leave School Following Dismissal

A 58-year-old part-time teacher, Olubunmi Adebayo, was arraigned in an Ibadan court after allegedly causing a disturbance and refusing to leave her school premises following her dismissal, and was granted ₦50,000 bail pending further proceedings.

A 58-year-old woman, Olubunmi Adebayo, has been arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over allegations of misconduct following the termination of her employment at a private school.

The defendant was charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. During the court proceedings held on Friday, she pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against her by the prosecution.

According to the prosecutor, Olagoke Adegbenro, the incident occurred on June 23, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m. at Smart School, located in the Ido area of Ibadan. He explained that the matter arose shortly after the defendant was informed that her services were no longer required by the school.

Adegbenro told the court that Adebayo, who worked as a part-time teacher at the institution, allegedly became disruptive after receiving news of her dismissal. He claimed that her actions attracted attention and caused concern within the school environment.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant shouted and refused to leave the school premises despite requests for her to vacate the property. He added that her conduct was considered capable of disturbing public peace and order within the area.

Presiding Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦50,000 with one surety in the same amount. The court ruled that the surety must be a blood relative of the defendant and adjourned the case until July 14, 2026, for further mention and continuation of proceedings.
