A 400-level student at the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State has been arrested by police on allegations of raping a male colleague.
A trending video on Tuesday captured the accused being taken away by the police amid a crowd.
The National Association of Ondo State Students and the FUOYE Student Union have released statements disassociating themselves from the accused, stating that he is not a member or affiliate of their organizations.
In their statement, the National Association of Ondo State Students clarified, “Oni Olalekan, popularly known as Asiwaju, who has been accused of sexual assault, is not a member, executive, or appointee of our association as publicly stated on June 10, 2024.
We want to make it clear to the general public that he has no affiliation with us. It is crucial to address and correct any misinformation promptly. We stand for a safe and inclusive environment for all our members and will take necessary actions to ensure justice is served.
If you have any concerns or information, please contact the association board. Let’s uphold our values and principles as we strive for a respectful and supportive community within our association.”


Similarly, the FUOYE Student Union issued a statement saying, “This is to inform the general public that Oni Olalekan, known as Asiwaju, is not a member or appointee of the Students’ Union Government. Any claims suggesting otherwise are incorrect. Please disregard any misinformation.
Be assured that the FUOYESUG is actively addressing this matter and will take all necessary actions to ensure justice is served. Thank you.”
