The NYSC has demobilized 54 fake graduates from the University of Calabar, preventing them from receiving certificates and pledging to prosecute them, while also emphasizing the need for integrity in the graduate mobilization process.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has demobilized 54 graduates from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) who were illegally mobilized for service, preventing them from receiving Certificates of National Service.
In a statement issued by Eddy Megwa, NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, it was revealed that 19 of these individuals had registered online but were stopped from proceeding with service, while the certificates for four other culprits were withheld.
The NYSC Director General, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, announced in Abuja that these fake graduates would face prosecution. This follows the earlier invalidation of certificates for 101 UNICAL graduates involved in the scheme between 2021 and 2023.
UNICAL’s Pro-Chancellor, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (retd.), praised NYSC for uncovering the fraud and pledged to take action against staff implicated in the illegal mobilizations. The NYSC also revealed that a bread seller had previously been fraudulently mobilized from the same university.
Brigadier-General Ahmed emphasized the importance of integrity in the data entry process for graduate mobilization and called on employers to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates presented for job placements. The Scheme will continue working with academic institutions and stakeholders to prevent further cases of illegal mobilization.
