Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has awarded GH¢60,000 to the finalists and trainers of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Each finalist contestant from the three finalist schools received GH¢10,000, while their teachers and schools were awarded GH¢5,000 each. The Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, presented the cash prizes on behalf of Dr. Bawumia.
Mfantsipim School claimed victory in the 2024 NSMQ, securing their third championship win and first since 2014, by narrowly defeating St. Augustine’s College with a score of 47 to 46, while Keta Senior High Technical School scored 26 points. Following their win, Mfantsipim held a celebratory trophy tour in Cape Coast, where crowds gathered to see the NSMQ bronze trophy and congratulate the team.
Meanwhile, an NSMQ coordinator from the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) raised concerns after his school’s semi-final tiebreaker loss to Mfantsipim, stating that certain decisions impacted their contest results.
