Oluwatimilehin Doko, a 500-level Pharmacy student from UNILAG, became the youngest champion of the 15th African Scrabble Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, securing Nigeria’s Scrabble dominance with 24 wins out of 32 rounds.


Oluwatimilehin Doko, a 500-level Pharmacy student from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), achieved a historic milestone by becoming the youngest champion of the 15th African Scrabble Championship held on October 26, 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda.
His win highlights Nigeria’s ongoing success in the Scrabble arena, with Doko’s strategic skill and resilience shining through as he claimed a total of 24 victories out of 32 rounds.
Competitors from ten countries, including Kenya, Uganda, and Ghana, participated in the four-day event.
Among Doko’s notable achievements was an early 487-423 victory over Uganda’s Godwin Murungi, as well as a decisive win against Nigerian Mumeen Jimoh in Round 31 with a score of 574-442, securing his unassailable lead.
In the Under-25 category, fellow UNILAG student and African Youth Champion David Ojih placed sixth, continuing UNILAG’s tradition of developing exceptional talent.
This accomplishment follows the 2021 success of UNILAG alumnus Enoch Nwali, who previously claimed the title in Lusaka, Zambia.
