WAEC has introduced a new program, WASSCE PC1, allowing students to resit their exams in January and February 2025 to improve their grades and avoid delays in their academic progress.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled a new initiative allowing students to resit their WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination) papers in January and February 2025.
This development represents a major change from the traditional system, where candidates had to wait for the next private exam cycle to retake failed papers.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday, December 31, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, announced the launch of the new program, named WASSCE PC1, which provides a quicker path for students to improve their grades.
“Students who have reviewed their results and wish to resit one or two papers have until January 8 to register online via our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The examinations will run from January 24 to February 15, 2025,” Mr. Kapi stated.
To support candidates in their preparations, WAEC plans to fast-track the release of chief examiners’ reports. These reports will highlight common errors made by students and offer guidance on how to perform better in future exams.
“We have widely publicized this program through banners, our website, and the results checker platform to ensure students and parents are informed,” Mr. Kapi added.
Students whose results were canceled are also eligible to participate in the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they have not been barred from sitting for future exams due to malpractice.
For now, the resit exams will be conducted in regional capitals due to the relatively small number of candidates expected to participate. WAEC encourages all interested students to complete their registration by January 8 to seize this opportunity.
