The Anambra State government has banned mobile phones in secondary schools to prevent distractions, with principals and teachers authorized to seize them, reinforcing academic focus and discipline.

Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, announced the directive during the Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day celebration in Awka. She emphasized that the increasing use of phones during school hours has become a major distraction, negatively impacting students’ academic performance.
“I am authorizing principals and teachers to seize phones from students who bring them to school to ensure they concentrate on their studies without interference,” Ikediugwu stated.
She highlighted Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education through significant investments aimed at fostering academic excellence and discipline.
Speaking on the cultural event, Ikediugwu stressed the importance of preserving Igbo heritage by educating students on traditional values and customs.
