Female NYSC Member Speaks Out After Brutal Assault by Anambra Vigilantes

A female NYSC member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, has spoken out after being violently assaulted, stripped, and falsely accused of internet fraud by a masked Anambra vigilante group that raided her lodge without identification or cause.

Jennifer Edema Elohor, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has come forward with her account of a terrifying assault by a local vigilante group in Anambra State.

According to Jennifer, on July 23, 2025, masked operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, raided her NYSC lodge, accusing corps members of engaging in internet fraud.

“We were just charging our phones”

Jennifer recalled that the incident began around 5 p.m. as she and a fellow corps member were indoors charging their phones.

“There was aggressive knocking. I thought it was a neighbor, but before I reached the gate, it had already been kicked open. A masked man with a gun entered, shouting for everyone to come outside,” she said.

The vigilantes reportedly gave no identification and ignored all attempts by the corps members to clarify their identity.

“We explained that we were NYSC members and even showed them our ID cards. Still, they forced their way into our rooms, seizing our laptops, phones, and personal belongings,” Jennifer added.

Beatings, Threats, and Humiliation

Once outside, Jennifer noticed a vehicle labeled “Anambra Vigilantes,” confirming who the intruders were. Despite pleas to contact NYSC officials or local authorities, the vigilantes responded with violence.

“They refused to let us call anyone and threatened to smash our phones. I was beaten, stripped, and dragged into their vehicle. They insulted me, calling me a prostitute, and threatened to kill me and dump my body in the bush,” she said.

Jennifer also said others who tried to intervene were assaulted with iron rods.

Public Outrage and Ongoing Investigation

The horrifying incident, which was captured on video and shared widely on social media, has sparked outrage. Calls are growing for accountability and better protection for corps members, especially those posted to volatile areas.

As of now, no official statement has been made by the Anambra State Government or the NYSC regarding disciplinary actions or investigation outcomes.
