Young Woman Accuses Mother of Forcing Her to Marry Married Man After He Paid for WAEC Exam

A young Nigerian woman revealed on TikTok that her mother forced her to marry a married man with six children after he paid for her WAEC exam, despite her objections and attempts to avoid the union.

A young Nigerian woman has come forward with a shocking revelation, accusing her mother of forcing her into a marriage with a man who already had six children—all because he paid for her WAEC (West African Examinations Council) exam fees.

The woman shared her story in a TikTok video posted by user ayospherical. According to her, the man had been visiting their home regularly and later expressed interest in marrying her. Despite his existing marriage and six children, her mother allegedly pushed for the union, ignoring her objections.

“When I finished writing WAEC, a man who often came to our house said he wanted to marry me,” she said in the video. “I told him I couldn’t marry him because he already had six children.”

She added that the man approached community elders, who then spoke to her mother. Despite her clear refusal, her mother remained firm in her decision.

“I told her I wanted to learn tailoring, but she paid me no attention. My cousin later warned me that my mother planned to give me to the man in marriage.”

Trying to take control of her own fate, she admitted she asked her boyfriend at the time to take her virginity, hoping that becoming pregnant might deter her mother from proceeding with the forced marriage.

Still, her resistance was ignored. Her mother had already accepted money for her WAEC fees from the suitor and insisted on the marriage. Eventually, she was forced into the marriage against her will.

Public Reactions

The post quickly went viral, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and sympathy in the comments:

  • Abike🫧💕: “No member of my family would dare. Absolute madness.”
  • ezz_star22: “My dad tried the same at 22. Told me to go find a husband—laughable!”
  • 🌹❤️August 25: “Sometimes, disobeying your parents is the right thing. They tried to force me on a man with two wives!”
  • user7738676922613: “Some parents are just beyond understanding. May God help us.”
  • Temis_thrift_City: “Glad I’ve always been stubborn. This is crazy!”
  • IWALEWA🌺: “Same happened to my friend back in secondary school. Now she’s a mother of four with no job or education.”
  • BIG MARYAM: “There are all kinds of mothers out there. Since we lost our dad 15 years ago, my mum never pressured us like this—even though we’ve struggled.”
  • Abbey: “Parents should let their children choose who to marry. This kind of pressure is damaging.”
