Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has banned manual labour for students in Kano schools, directing that all maintenance projects be handled by the Ministry of Education after discovering students digging a toilet pipeline.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has banned the use of students for manual labour in schools after discovering students digging a toilet pipeline during an unscheduled visit to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, on Sunday, the governor expressed strong disapproval of the practice, insisting that schools should focus on education and moral guidance rather than physical labour. Despite the headmaster’s explanation that the work took place after school hours, Yusuf maintained that such tasks were unacceptable.
He directed that all school maintenance and infrastructure projects be handled by the Ministry of Education or his office for proper execution. Additionally, he reassured the school management of his administration’s commitment to renovating dilapidated structures, including the school’s mosque.
