The NYSC has announced that employers who fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to their organisations will be blacklisted from participating in the scheme.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that organisations that fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members posted to them risk being barred from participating in the scheme.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this during an interactive session with corps members on a working visit to Kogi State. He stressed that employers have a responsibility to ensure the welfare of corps members serving in their organisations.
According to Nafiu, any employer that neglects to provide the required accommodation and transport support will be blacklisted and will no longer be allowed to receive corps members for national service.
He explained that adequate welfare would improve corps members’ productivity, morale, and overall experience during their service year, urging employers to treat them with care and respect.
The NYSC boss also reassured corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to their safety and welfare. He appealed to state governments, local government councils, and other stakeholders to continue supporting the objectives of the scheme.
Nafiu encouraged corps members to remain disciplined, dedicated, and law-abiding throughout their service year, while avoiding actions capable of bringing the NYSC into disrepute.
He further advised them to actively participate in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, identify business opportunities within their host communities, and develop a culture of saving despite the country’s economic challenges.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Kogi State, Mrs. Tochi Chika Chris-Moneke, commended the Director-General for visiting the state, describing the visit as evidence of his dedication to the welfare and security of corps members and NYSC staff.
She also disclosed that the state secretariat was making arrangements to organise a workshop for corps employers as well as a Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers programme in the near future.
