A 22-year-old engineering graduate honoured his father’s 26 years of hard work in the gas industry by carrying a gas cylinder across the graduation stage in a heartfelt tribute to his sacrifices.

A young engineering graduate has touched hearts around the world after paying an emotional tribute to his father during his graduation ceremony by carrying a gas cylinder across the stage.

Lorenzo Monfardini, who graduated in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Ouro Preto in Brazil at the age of 22, chose the unusual gesture to recognise the sacrifices his father made over 26 years working in the gas industry to support their family.

The graduation ceremony, held in November 2024, became unforgettable as Lorenzo walked onto the stage with a gas cylinder resting on his shoulder before lifting it above his head in front of the audience. The symbolic act honoured his father, Jefferson Gomes Monfardini, whose decades of work in the commercial gas sector helped make his son’s education possible.

According to reports, the idea for the tribute came from Lorenzo’s mother, who suggested using the gas cylinder as a symbol of his father’s dedication and years of service. Lorenzo embraced the idea, believing it was the perfect way to publicly recognise his father’s sacrifices.

Lorenzo completed his five-year engineering programme after years of hard work and described his university experience as a journey filled with learning, perseverance and personal growth. By carrying the gas cylinder during his graduation, he connected his academic achievement with the effort and commitment that had supported him throughout his education.
