WOW! Good News: Federal Government Scraps HND Certificate and Replaces it with B.Tech. Also Makes Graduates with HND Certificate equal with Degree holders.

To Polytechnic students and graduates and to all candidates who wrote the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, this should be the best news for the week!
The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has scrapped the award of Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate and has replaced it with the award of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).
The decision was made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday where the approval of a comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s tertiary education system was made.
For knowledge sake, HND certificate is the senior brother to Nation Diploma (lol). What we actually mean is when you get admission newly into any Polytechnic, the certificate they will award you after two years is National Diploma (ND), if then you wish to upgrade your certificate, you will have to re-apply in that Poly (or any other poly) and after two years, you will be awarded a Higher National Diploma certificate (HND).

FG in scrapping the HND certificate also automatically made Polytechnics campuses to all Universities. Each Polytechnic will be the campus of their proximate university. This means that if a university is in Lagos, any polytechnic in that Lagos will be a campus to that University in Lagos.
In addition, the Vice Chancellors of those universities will have the right to appoint provosts for the polytechnics, though they will be subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils.
Since the graduates of Polytechnics will now be awarded B.Tech, the FG has also scrapped all programmes which are not Technology Based. This shocking thing about this is that such programmes are about %70.
However, the award of the B.Tech certificate will take effect for students that will be admitted in the 2018/2019 academic session. All students already admitted in previous session will still be awarded with HND.

To kick-start the new policy, the nation’s two most prominent polytechnics – Yaba College of Technology and Kaduna Polytechnic – will henceforth be known as City University of Technology, Yaba and City University of Technology, Kaduna.
And to give legal teeth to these approvals, the FEC approved the submission of two Executive bills to the National Assembly for enactment.
The first bill will concretise the setting up of the two city universities while the second will approve the preparation and consolidation of all federal polytechnics and colleges of education as campuses of proximate universities.
