AAU has canceled final-year exams for students in the Faculty of Arts after they engaged in disruptive celebrations, violating the university’s directives.

Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has canceled the final year examinations of students in the Faculty of Arts due to their involvement in unruly celebrations on campus.
In a statement dated January 29, 2025, the university’s acting registrar, Ephraim Ikharehon Isiraojie, announced the decision, stating that the affected students violated management’s directive against wild celebrations. The affected students are from the Departments of Mass Communication, English, and History and International Studies.
According to Isiraojie, the graduating students engaged in disruptive activities, including reckless car displays, the use of sirens, money spraying, loud shouting, and hooting. Their actions also led to the blockage of access roads within and around the university.
“The university management is disturbed that despite previous memos prohibiting excessive celebrations on campus, graduating students from the Faculty of Arts ignored the directive,” the statement read.
Following an emergency meeting on January 29, 2025, the university decided to cancel several final-year course examinations, including but not limited to ELS 411, MAC 414, and HIS 416. The registrar noted that a decision on when the canceled exams would be rescheduled would be made in due course.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and the affected Heads of Departments have been directed to meet with the Acting Vice-Chancellor immediately.
The university management emphasized that this decision is intended to serve as a deterrent to other graduating students who have yet to complete their final year examinations.
