The Vice-Chancellor Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo has charged the new students admitted for the 2024/2025 academic session to maintain and remain focused with their academic as well as ensure strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the University.


The Vice-Chancellor who stated this while addressing new students during the 2024/2025 orientation programme at the University Auditorium, urged the students to avoid any form of distractions and stay focused to achieve the primary purpose of their gaining admission into the University.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor E.I Akubugwo, he warned them on the severe implications of cultism, exam malpractice, and other related acts that may derail their academic pursuit, and encouraged them to always study their books, attend lectures regularly to enable them achieve their career objectives.
He thanked the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr Alex C. Otti OFR, for his fatherly support to the University since assumption of office as the Governor, especially, in the area of regular payment of staff salaries, clearing of outstanding backlogs, and recent promise of the Governor to construct new Faculty buildings for Law and Agriculture as well as to give a facelift to dilapidated student hostels.
He prayed that God will give the Visitor the enablement and resources to actualise his vision of making ABSU a globally recognized University.
In her words of admonishment, the wife of the Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson Abia State University Women Association (ABSUWA), Professor Mrs Geraldine Okeudo pointed out the advantages of setting goals, building moral values, and working towards achieving them.
She urged the students to be focused, diligent and committed to their studies, while upholding the University values and tradition.
Also speaking, the Registrar, Dr Acho Elendu represented by Head Admission Unit, Mrs Beatrice Madumere, urged the students to ensure proper registration and documentation in their various departments to be recognised as bonafide students of the University, while pointing out the importance of always reading the academic regulations for guidance.
In a vote of thanks, Dean Students Affairs, Professor Levi Nwokocha expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and his Management team, for prioritizing the welfare of students at all levels as well as the resource persons and the freshers who came out in their numbers.
Other resource persons that spoke to students during the orientation programme were, The Bursar represented by Mr Adinma Okwudiri, University Librarian represented by Dr Emenike Ahiabuike, Director Business Resource Centre, Professor Uzoma Nwokochah, Director General Studies Dr N. Nwoko, Director ICS represented by Mr Kenn Elema, Director Medical Services, Dr Nkwa Oge, Ag Chief Security Officer, Mr Chinonye Ukwa and other staff of the University.
