The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has approved the appointments of Prof Ismaila Dahiru Lawal and Prof Abulrasheed Ibrahim as Provost and Deputy Provost of the College of Medical Sciences respectively.


Prof Dahiru teaches at the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, while Prof Abulrasheed is of the Department of Surgery.
Until his appointment, Prof Dahiru was the Deputy Provost of the College. He concluded his second and final term of two years as the Deputy Provost.
The Vice-Chancellor said in a letter conveying Prof Dahiru’s appointment that his selection for the new role followed his “demonstrated hard work, administrative competence, and commitment to institutional ideals”.
Ahmed also said Prof Dahiru was considered for the wealth of experience he had gathered, particularly through his service as Deputy Provost of the College for four years.
The Vice-Chancellor charged him to pay special attention to the effective implementation of the recent FGN High Impact Intervention in the university aimed at increasing enrolment capacity in the medical and allied fields.
Appointing Prof Abulrasheed Ibrahim as Deputy Provost of the College, the Vice-Chancellor explained that his appointment was in recognition of his administrative and academic leadership qualities.
In the same vein, the Vice-Chancellor approved the reappointments of Prof Ado Yusuf and Prof Yusuf Ahmad Sani as Directors for Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) and National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS) respectively.
Both directors were reappointed for a second term of two years each with effect from 15th October, 2025.
He charged them to build on their past achievements by repositioning the two organisations as leading drivers of agricultural development.
Also, the Vice-Chancellor appointed Prof Hassan Mohammed Rabiu as acting Director of National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) for a period of six months.
He explained that Prof Hassan’s appointment as acting Director followed the expiration of his two-year tenure as Director, NAPRI and in view of the recently declared state of emergency on the institute.
According to him, the appointment was to allow for a performance review within the framework of the declared state of emergency aimed at realigning the institute towards impactful delivery of its core mandates.
Equally, the Vice-Chancellor approved the reappointment of Prof Haladu Isa Bayero as Chairman of Staff School Management Board for another period of two years.
The reappointment, effective from 29th September, 2025, is in recognition of his administrative and academic leadership qualities.
