The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Kabiru Bala, has challenged the institution’s professors to distinguish themselves by mentoring the younger academics as well as engaging in impactful generational researches.


Prof Bala spoke today at a ceremony organised by the Department of Political Science and International Studies to honour its six newly promoted staff members to the rank of professor and nine others who bagged PhDs recently.
The colourful event took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences Lecture Theatre I.
The Vice-Chancellor, who commended the department for taking the lead in recognising and celebrating its staff members, cited the likes of Dr Yusufu Bala Usman of blessed memory who had left enduring legacies worthy of emulation.
He congratulated the department’s new professors and PhDs holders, urging them to carry out “needs based” researches that would focus on contemporary issues, particularly insecurity.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, hailed the perseverance, dedication, and hard work of the celebrants.
Prof Bako also called on them to keep the tempo of uplifting the good name of the department and the university as a whole through quality academic and administrative activities.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Aliyu Sanusi Rafindadi, lauded the department for promoting the university’s vision of advancement.
The department, according to him, is leading in its exceptional relationship with its alumni.
Prof Rafindadi expressed delight at the award ceremony which he said would inspire others to do more.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor commended the department and called on other departments to emulate the award system.
Earlier in her remarks, the Head, Department of Political Science and International Studies, Prof Rahanatu Lawal, described the award ceremony as a gathering to celebrate a community of exceptional scholars.
She commended the Vice-Chancellor for his remarkable contributions towards advancement of education system.
Presentations of various awards to the six new professors, nine PhD holders, and other deserving staff members of the Department were made at the occasion.
