Abuja School Denies Bullying Claims, Labels Viral Video a ‘Staged Play’

Beautiful Beginning Academy in Abuja denied allegations of bullying after a viral video showed students chaining an SS2 student, claiming it was a staged play and emphasizing the school’s history of zero bullying cases.

The management of Beautiful Beginning Academy (BBA), located in Gudu District, Abuja, has refuted allegations of bullying following the circulation of a viral video showing senior students tying a chain around an SS2 student, identified as Imtiyas, and ordering him to lie on the floor.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the school’s principal, Aaron Ipke, clarified that the incident was a staged performance misunderstood as bullying. He emphasized the school’s open-door policy, which allows students to freely report concerns, and insisted there was no history of bullying at the institution.

“Categorically, I will state that there was no bullying at BBA. What you saw was a make-believe performance staged by the students in their hostel. Other students were present and watched, which proves it was not bullying,” Ipke explained.

The principal added that the recording device used to film the scene was a school-issued tablet typically used during learning hours and later collected. He expressed disbelief at the allegations, stating, “In our 14 years of existence, we’ve never recorded any case of bullying. The report only came to us after Imtiyas’s family raised the issue on Monday.”

He further noted that the school had taken the matter seriously and reviewed the situation but found no evidence to support claims of bullying. “The students involved acted innocently, though it may have been misinterpreted. If there was any bullying, at least one of the students present would have reported it to us,” he said.

The school management reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all students while expressing disappointment at the family’s allegations.
