The owner of Aces Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School in Abuja has taken decisive action after a violent incident involving a parent and a teacher. The altercation, which occurred on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, left a significant impact on the school community.
Incident Overview
The incident began when an irate father, Muhammad Jimeta, stormed the school premises and attacked both a nursing mother and a teacher, Sekinat Adedeji, over disciplinary actions taken against his child. The chaos unfolded in Area 2, Garki, Abuja, as the father reacted aggressively to reports about his daughter’s behavior.
Teacher’s Account
Sekinat Adedeji, who was holding her three-month-old baby at the time, recounted the traumatic experience. “The father slapped me four times because the school closes at 3 pm. His daughter reported an incident at 12:30 pm, and he reacted when he came to pick her up. The child is not serious with her studies and insults teachers.”
Eyewitness Testimony
Magdalene Ukuedojor, another parent present during the incident, claimed that the female pupil had a history of insulting others. She emphasized that the father’s actions were unjustified, highlighting the gravity of physically assaulting both a nursing mother and a teacher.
Father’s Response
Muhammad Jimeta defended his actions by accusing the teacher of bullying his daughter. “She is not telling you the truth. This woman has been beating my child for a long time,” he asserted.
In response to the incident, Alhaji Aminu Kani, the school proprietor, who was away due to a bereavement, announced that both the teacher and the pupil have been suspended pending a thorough investigation. “I have taken two actions: the girl is suspended, and the teacher is suspended. They both committed infractions. But when I return, we will conclude. For now, both are suspended.”
Kani further stated, “You don’t allow parents to do what they want. You come to a class and slap a teacher? She is an adult. What training is he giving his children? For the teacher, why is she beating other people’s children? There is no corporal punishment in our school.”
Additional Context
The incident has sparked widespread discussion about school discipline and parental involvement, emphasizing the need for appropriate conflict resolution methods within educational institutions.
