Akintelu Elizabeth Abiola made history as Nigeria’s youngest medical doctor, earning her degree and MDCN induction at just 21 years old.

A remarkable Nigerian woman, Akintelu Elizabeth Abiola, has made history as the youngest medical doctor ever inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Becoming a medical doctor is no small feat, as it requires years of rigorous study, training, and dedication. Yet, Elizabeth achieved this milestone at just 21 years old, an age when many of her peers were still pursuing their undergraduate studies.
Elizabeth began her secondary education at the Federal Government Girls’ College in Akure, Nigeria, before moving to Sudan, where she completed high school at Unity High School, Khartoum.
After graduating, she gained admission to Ahfad University for Women in Sudan to study medicine. By 2016, at only 21 years old, Elizabeth had successfully completed her medical degree.
Reflecting on her incredible achievement, Elizabeth admitted that even she hadn’t imagined reaching such a milestone so early. She credited her success to starting school early and skipping a grade, which accelerated her academic journey.
Her path to success, however, was not without its challenges. Studying in Sudan, she faced language barriers, cultural differences, and extreme weather conditions. Despite these difficulties, Elizabeth remained focused on her dreams.
On November 8, 2016, the same year she graduated, she took the Hippocratic Oath and was officially inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Since setting the record in 2016, Elizabeth’s title as Nigeria’s youngest medical doctor remains unbroken, standing as an inspiration to young people across the country.
