Cursory: University students reportedly fled the campus following attacks by masked gunmen on the Malabor Republic hostels on Saturday night.
It is saddening how a supposed place meant to serve as security becomes a nightmare and that’s how it eluded in University of Calabar(UNICAL) invading the school premises.
The armed invasion happened around 9 p.m. on Friday and lasted over 30 minutes without campus security intervention. Many left the school premises with fear that they will return.
According to the students, the gunmen successfully seized several phones and money. One of the victims reported;
“The armed gang successfully operated in Room 228, 227, and 232, and was shooting sporadically. The sound of their guns struck fear and caused confusion.“
The unfortunate incident has instilled fear among numerous students.
SUG president, Kachi Akwo and Dean of Student Affairs Dr Tony Eyang, condemned the assaults on the unsuspecting students.
The police authorities are yet to react to the incident.
