Boy Preparing For WASSCE, UTME Killed In Lagos Tanker Fire

A body of 15-year-old boy identified as Oluwatobi Lawal has been recovered from the scene of a tanker explosion at Alagbado, along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The late teenager was reportedly preparing for West African Senior School Certificate Examination and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

It was reported by Daily Trust that a tanker conveying 45,000 litres of petrol fell and spilled its contents while negotiating a bend to a filling station in the area where the fuel was supposed to be discharged.

The fire reportedly broke out while some miscreants were scooping fuel, burning shops and three vehicles.

It was however not yet clear how Lawal was caught in the fire which had been put out by emergency officials.

According a video obtained by Daily Trust correspondent, it showed the mother of the deceased being consoled by sympathizers as she grieved over the loss of her son, wailing uncontrollably.

He was 15-year-old; he wanted to sit for WAEC exams,” the woman said tearfully.

The Lagos Territorial Head of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, while giving an update on the incident, said 42 shops were burnt.

He said, “The dead victim was a 15-year-old boy, Oluwatobi Lawal. The teenager was preparing to sit for WAEC exams and UTME next month. SHEMU has taken the body away.

“About 42 makeshift shops were consumed in the inferno. Transloading of the remaining contents into the underground tanks of the filling station is ongoing.”
