The University of Port Harcourt has taken a major step toward sustainable energy and improved campus services with the activation of its new Solar Power System, designed to provide uninterrupted electricity across key academic and administrative areas.

During an inspection and test-run of the system, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, affirmed that the solar infrastructure will significantly strengthen the University’s capacity to support teaching, learning, research, entrepreneurship, administration, and general living conditions on campus.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for facilitating this transformative energy intervention, which aligns with national goals for renewable energy adoption and institutional development.
The newly deployed solar system is expected to enhance productivity, reduce dependence on the national grid, ensure stable power during critical academic activities, and promote a greener, more resilient university environment.
This milestone marks a new era in UNIPORT’s drive toward sustainability, innovation, and world-class service delivery.
