Odinaka Akpamgbo, a brilliant Nigerian lawyer, made history with a double first-class in Law, earning scholarships to top universities, including Oxford, where he is now fully funded for the prestigious Bachelor of Civil Law program.

A remarkable Nigerian scholar, Odinaka Akpamgbo, has accomplished an extraordinary feat, graduating with a double first-class in Law and earning prestigious scholarships to pursue a Master’s degree at leading UK institutions, including the University of Oxford.
Odinaka began his academic journey at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Nigeria, where he earned a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree with first-class honors. He continued this streak at the Nigerian Law School, where he also graduated with a first-class distinction, becoming the first student in ESUT’s history to achieve a double first-class in Law.
During his time at the Nigerian Law School, Odinaka excelled among over 6,000 students, ranking in the top 0.16%. He received numerous accolades, including:
3rd Overall Best Student in Civil Litigation (Prince Bola Ajibola, SAN Prize)
2nd Best Student in Civil Litigation, Kano Campus
Director-General’s Prize for First-Class Students
2nd Best Male Student, Kano Campus
Reflecting on his undergraduate years, Odinaka shared that he graduated in 2021 with a stellar 4.72 CGPA (out of 5.0), the third-highest in his faculty’s history.
Despite the intense demands of law school, Odinaka skillfully balanced internships with leading West African law firms, leadership roles, participation in international competitions, and a personal passion for fashion.
His academic excellence has earned him admission and scholarships to four world-renowned universities. At the University of Oxford, Odinaka was awarded the Oxford Faculty of Law Scholarship, Regent’s Park College Scholarship, BCL Grant, Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholarship, and full funding for the prestigious Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) program—the most esteemed postgraduate law degree in the common law world.
He also secured scholarships from other prestigious institutions, including:
University of Cambridge
London School of Economics (LSE) African Endowment Scholarship
Queen Mary University of London Global Talent Scholarship
Roy Goode Scholarship
Odinaka attributes his success to his faith, family, friends, mentors, and supporters. He expressed gratitude to his professors at ESUT and colleagues at TEMPLARS law firm for nurturing his legal career, as well as his mother, whose sacrifices were a source of inspiration.
Now a scholar of the Mastercard Foundation and the Africa Oxford Initiative, Odinaka has matriculated at the University of Oxford, describing this milestone as a testament to his resilience, determination, and the power of faith.
