Brilliant Nigerian Man Graduates with 4.68 First-Class Degree in Mathematics, Earns Prestigious Internship with Bill Gates Foundation

Adedeji Ayomide, a resilient Nigerian scholar, graduated with a 4.68 CGPA in Mathematics from FUOYE, overcoming personal and financial challenges to earn a prestigious internship with ICAMMDA, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, while inspiring others with his dedication to academic excellence and public health research.

Adedeji Ayomide, a gifted Nigerian scholar, has achieved an extraordinary feat by graduating with a stellar 4.68 CGPA in Mathematics from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. His academic brilliance has earned him a fully funded internship at the International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modeling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA), a program supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In an interview with Legit.ng, Ayomide recounted his inspiring journey, characterized by resilience and determination.

“I lost my dad just months before gaining admission to FUOYE. Adjusting to the new environment was tough. Financial and emotional struggles made it hard to focus on my studies, and I started with a 3.7 CGPA. But I knew I had to rise above these challenges,” Ayomide shared.

To support his education, he worked several menial jobs, while his mother worked tirelessly to provide for his siblings. Despite these challenges, Ayomide adopted rigorous study habits, including late-night reading sessions and forming a study group with three like-minded peers. His hard work paid off, and he rose to become one of the top three students in his department.

Ayomide’s academic journey reached a turning point when he secured an opportunity to work with ICAMMDA. His most recent research focuses on the impact of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) on malaria transmission dynamics in Kebbi State. This work has fueled his passion for addressing public health challenges in Nigeria.

“I aspire to use data-driven approaches to combat infectious diseases like malaria and contribute to eliminating this scourge in Nigeria,” Ayomide said.

Ayomide hopes to inspire young Nigerians by proving that perseverance and hard work can lead to success, regardless of challenges. He plans to leverage his expertise in mathematics and data analysis to tackle real-world problems in public health.

“I want to be a role model, showing young Nigerians that no matter the challenges, perseverance and hard work can lead to success,” he said.

Ayomide also offered words of encouragement for students striving for academic excellence.

“Despite the difficulties in the Nigerian academic environment, stay focused and committed. Work hard, manage your time wisely, and make the most of available resources—whether it’s past questions, online materials, or study groups,” he advised.

“Seek support from professors and peers, and never forget the God factor. With faith, hard work, and perseverance, all things are possible,” he added.

Adedeji Ayomide’s journey is a testament to the power of determination and resilience, serving as an inspiration to many aspiring scholars.
