Campus Tragedy: 300-Level UNIZIK Student Collapses, Dies During Football Match

A 300-level UNIZIK student, Tochi Martins Attah, tragically died after collapsing during a football match on campus, leaving the university and his hometown in deep mourning.

A promising student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, tragically lost his life after suddenly collapsing during a friendly football game on the university campus. The deceased, Tochi Martins Attah, affectionately known as T-Funds by his peers, was a third-year student who had recently transitioned from studying Microbiology to pursuing a medical program — a testament to his ambition and dedication.

The heartbreaking incident occurred on the morning of Monday, July 7, 2025, within the university’s Elmada Hostel residential area. According to eyewitness accounts and reports gathered by Naija Pulse, Attah collapsed unexpectedly in the middle of the game, and despite immediate medical attention and attempts to revive him, he sadly passed away on the spot.

Community in Mourning

The news has sent shockwaves through the university community and beyond. Engr. Sabastine Aku, President of Useh Youths, confirmed this devastating loss. Attah was a beloved son of Useh Village and the younger brother of Dr. Simon Attah, the APC Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State. His untimely death has left his family, friends, and the entire UNIZIK community deeply shaken, mourning the loss of a young life filled with promise and potential.

The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of how fragile life can be, even in moments of joy and camaraderie. The university and local community are coming together to offer support and condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time.
